To Bill Brasky, the greatest non-character from SNL's history.
You may be wondering why you’ve been redirected here from www.BillBrasky.com…well, that’s because I’m the fortunate SOB that managed to register the domain name years ago. And, no, I will not sell it. Sorry!
From the comedic minds of Will Ferrell and writer/director Adam McKay came the original man with a multitude of incredible exploits ala Chuck Norris – William Robert Brasky, aka BILL BRASKY!
First “appearing” in an Saturday Night Live sketch on January 20th, 1996, tales of Brasky would enter the collective conscience of drinking buddies everywhere. While there were only five Brasky sketches between 1996-1998, each left behind a legacy of comical brilliance.
The sketches all followed a similar format: three or four men would get drunk and find themselves recounting the outlandish exploits of their fellow acquaintance, Bill Brasky. A series of one-line feats, likes or dislikes of Brasky’s would be tossed out amongst the guys until one of the drinkers would stop and share a tall tale. After asking the group if they’d heard a particular Brasky event, one of the other men would offer up something embarrassing about their own lives…a brief pause…and then the tall tale would be told. Once the story finished up the men would begin the cycle anew and occasionally offer up a rather loud toast “to Bill Brasky!” which would either draw the ire of those nearby or a “I know that guy!” from SNL iron man Tim Meadows. The sketches would end when the larger-than-life Brasky would appear barely on screen and call an end to whatever event was taking place on account of something to do with Scotch. The men would toast him with a resounding “TO BILL BRASKY!” and that was that.
Pure. Comedic. Brilliance.
After having the domain name sitting around for years I’ve decided to finally create my own homage to my favorite SNL character of all time.
THE FIVE BRASKY SKETCHES
At the Airport
At the Holiday Inn
At the Funeral
At the Little League Game
At the BarI’ll end this tribute with a parody song I was inspired to create in 2002 that merely scratches the surface of Brasky’s far-reaching accomplishments. I hope you enjoy it.
“My Name Is…Bill Brasky”
TO BILL BRASKY!
I first saw a brasky sketch when I was in middle school. I think it was one of the first times I laughed so hard I cried. I’ve been a Brasky enthusiast ever since and every time there is a new fad involving super human abilities like Chuck Norris, Vin Diesel, etc.. I always get irritated and try to tell people about Bill.
Here’s to Bill Brasky. A ten foot tall beastman who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi.
